Welcome and thank you so much for visiting my digital hangout! As you must clearly know, I’m Crescent Imani Novell, writer of Television, Film, Theater, Plays and books (under my pseudo name). Nice to meet you. Let’s get to the goods!
Born in Memphis, raised in Seattle, I’ve been writing since I was a kid but I truly discovered it as a talent when I started making up skits and plays for my students when I was a certificated teacher. You can say I hit it “big” when I moved to LA and got a gig writing, directing and choreographing an annual stage production for a charter school named (CLAS) Culture and Language Academy of Success. I wrote original, culturally centered plays that 350 kids performed at the Wilshire Ebell, right before the Christmas holiday. The seventh and last one was called Six Letters In Harlem. It was so impactful that I rewrote it for professional adult actors and self-produced it at Stage 52. Four out of five shows were sold out and I’m working to put it up again for a full run… one of these glorious days.
After dead-end pitches, failures, rejections and MANY tries, I finally broke into Hollywood when I won the Nickelodeon Fellowship. Though I never intended on writing animation, Nick led me to my first staffed gig at Disney on Amphibia. Amazingly, I rolled off and rolled right on to all my next shows: Barbie at Mattel, Fright Krewe at DreamWorks, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur back at Disney. Sprinkle in some freelancing for PBS shows as well. I currently have a live-action movie I was hired to rewrite (page one), being produced with an independent film company and scheduled for release Christmas 2024.
Though I love animation, I’m excited to add more live-action to my portfolio. Super proud of my procedural/drama, Paris, being chosen as a quarterfinalist for the Moonshot Collective Pilot Accelerator Contest 2024. I’m repped by Karen Kirkland at Culture Creative LA Karen.Kirkland@culturecreative.com. Thank you and hopefully you have time to check out my other tabs!
