After winning the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship, I hustled for a year until, luckily, a Disney exec recruited me to the Apprentice Program. I joined Amphibia and learned all about the animation pipeline. The show was fantastic and I met some great friends.
In addition to the Apprentice Program, I had also snagged a general with That's Wonderful Productions and I had been pitching and developing a movie for four months. My now-agent was intrigued, picked me up and BOOM--I was on to Mattel. My first gig as an actual, staffed TV writer--for the first Black Barbie. Heaven!
I rolled right off of Barbie and right on to this show! Fun fact: Never was into horror. but I saw Lovecraft Country and thought: I wouldn't mind writing for a show like that. BOOM! There came Fright Krewe. The Showrunners and writers met everyday and that's my favorite kind of room. I don't mind working solo but collaborating daily and talking about story is my favorite thing to do.
I rolled right off and right on to Moon Girl. This show was my dream. I learned that everything has its timing and the best thing to happen most likely happens. Moon Girl showcased the hero I needed when I was a kid, so writing for it was so cathartic. I'm so happy for this show and all the awards it won. Well-deserved!
